"From ca 1885 to 1897, Frank was a deputy-sheriff in Toledo, Ohio, USA. They lived in a bording house run by a Mrs. Dean. They became so fond of her, that they gave as a second name of Dean to their son Kenneth. In 1897, Frank, Annie and son Donald, returned by the Erie canal to Canada, to farm with his father, when illness forced the early retirement of Frank's elder brother Henry."
